Global Wildlife Center, Family Fun Just Outside of New Orleans

Updated: Mar 20

Just one hour north of downtown New Orleans sits an animal lovers paradise, the Global Wildlife Center. This sprawling 900 acre wildlife sanctuary is home to over 3500 exotic, endangered and threaten animals. Visitors are treated to a safari -like experience, traveling through the facility in jeeps and wagons.

There are no predators in the animal population, so all the animals are free-roaming. Visitors are encouraged to feed the animals allowing for an up-close and personal experience with them. Giraffes, Zebra, Camels and Llama, all gather around your wagon to get a bite animal food from you.

The Global Wildlife Center is open 7 days a week. Reservations and tickets can be purchased from their website. There are two tour options, the 75 minute Guided Safari Wagon Tour and the 60 minute Private Tour. The Guided Safari Wagon Tour is $19.00 for adults and $13.00 for children. The Private Tour is $39.95 per person for Groups of 4-8. A Family Bucket of animal food is $32.00.

Discover Louisiana's Sportman Paradise with Bowfishing Unlimited,

We recently took our grandsons on the Private Tour. They were thrilled with the experience. They were a bit nervous the first tie the animal came up to the wagon, but quickly relaxed.

The wagons move slowly through the park like setting. You are able observe the animal's interactions with each other and take photographs. It is fun to see the baby animals under the watchful eyes of their mothers.

Children and adults delight in offering the wildlife cups of animal feed. The Wagons are tall enough that you are eye to eye with Elk, Zebras, Llamas and Camels. The Giraffes reach their long necks into the wagon to lap up the food with their equally as long tongues. An afternoon at the Global Wildlife Center is fun for all ages!
