We stayed at Wyndham Viva Aztec in mid 2023. I was impressed with the quality of the food and cocktails at this family friendly resort. I also love the location, just south of Playa de Carmen and beach walking distance to undeveloped areas of the Mexican Coast.


I have stayed at Riu resorts throughout the Caribbean. I find them very well maintained, with high quality food and drinks and very easy on your budget. If you want to be in the lively downtown Cancun Hotel Zone, Hotel Riu Palace is an excellent choice.


At the eastern end of the Cancun Hotel district sits Intercontinental Presidente Cancun. This property has stunning views of the Caribbean Sea to the north and east. It has a fun vibe in the pool area. This is a great choice if you want to stay close to the shops and nightlife of downtown Cancun.


Looking for a beach and nature centric, budget friendly hotel, head south down the Yucatan Peninsula to the Riviera Maya to the Barcelo Maya Palace. There are several Barcelo Resorts along the Riviera Maya all have stunning beach views and budget friendly pricing.


Adjacent to the Xcaret Nature and Cultural Park is the budget friendly, Occidental Xcaret Resort. Wandering the property will take you past, tropical birds, ancient ruins and monkeys swinging from the trees. With a protected snorkeling area and nightly canoe visit from Mayan Indians, there is truly something for everyone at this resort.


Budget Friendly - Los Cabos

If you prefer the significantly less humid, desert side of Mexico, head to Hotel Riu Palace in Cabos San Lucas. It is a quick taxi ride to downtown Cabo where you can shop, vist Sammy Hagar's Cabo Wabo Cantina or charter a boat for sightseeing or deep sea fishing.


Another great option is the Royal Solaris Los Cabos. This family friendly resort has something for everyone. From kids pools to tennis and basketball courts, beach volleyball to live music, spas to kids club and mini water park, every member of the family will love this vacation spot.


Mid Priced - Yucatan Peninsula

Another top choice along the Riviera Maya is the Moon Palace Cancun, a family-friendly resort that boasts multiple swimming pools, a water park, and a Jack Nicklaus signature golf course. This property frequently offers special rates, making it more budget friendly.


For an adults only experience on a stunning piece of the Mexican Coast is El Dorado Maroma. This is an intimate property with beautiful views, great food and a relaxed vibe.


If you prefer a party vibe and closeness to downtown Cancun, check out Iberostar Selection Cancun. Watch out for the tequila volleyball games, you may need a nap after the combination of exercise and tequila.


Another picturesque resort on the south side of Playa del Carmen is Royal Hideaway. Sitting on a wide stretch of white sand beach, this is a smaller more intimate property. with a swim up pool bar and lots of water sports, this property offers and the amenities if a large resort on a smaller foorprint.


Looking for something quieter, adults only but close to the Cancun Airport, Excellence Riviera Cancun is an excellent choice. I have stayed at Excellence properties throughout the Caribbean and have never been disappointed. They offer a wide variety of food and alcohol choices and a beautiful beach.


Mid Priced - Los Cabos

Love the cool, dry breezes, golden sand, and stunning views of the azure Pacific Ocean but you are looking for a adults only, relaxed atmosphere, check out Paradisus Los Cabos. This laid back resort is at the far eastern side of the Los Cabos Hotel district and designed for relaxation.


Luxury - Yucatan Peninsula

On the island of Isla Mujeres just off the coast of Cancun is the Excellence Playa Mujeres, a luxurious adults-only resort that offers stunning ocean views, gourmet dining options, and a world-class spa. I have never stayed on this chill island but when I do, this is where I am staying.


One of the top resorts in this area is the Banyan Tree Mayakoba, a stunning property nestled in a tropical mangrove forest. This resort offers private villas with their own pools, a championship golf course, and a spa that specializes in traditional Mayan treatments.


Another popular choice is the Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun, an adults-only resort that boasts a beautiful white sandy beach, gourmet dining options, all in an opulent environment.


Another great luxury option is Fairmont Heritage Place Mayakoba, offering delicious dining options, spectacular ocean views and eco friendly grounds. As you wander through the proptery you are treated to not only the coastal environment but the dense tropical jungle you find inland on the Yucatan Peninsula. Nature enthusiasts will love this resort.


Luxury - Los Cabos

One of the top all-inclusive resorts in Los Cabos is the adults only, Grand Velas Los Cabos, a luxurious property that offers spacious suites with private plunge pools, gourmet dining options, and a state-of-the-art spa. It is across the street from and golf course and close to shopping and attraction.


Another popular choice is the Marquis Los Cabos, an adults-only resort that features breathtaking ocean views, multiple swimming pools, and a variety of dining options. This stunning property is adult's only, all a la cart dining, with a variety of beach, pool and eveing activities.
